An introduction to cycling for autistic people: what is autism, why do autistic people like to cycle, what are the challenges.

In this course, you will learn how to use various tools in order to plan, evaluate, and improve a cycle route for autistic cyclists. After reviewing the needs of autistic cyclists, we will look at
- how to use mapping tools such as OpenStreetMap, Google Maps, and BikeMap to sketch a possible route
- how to identify difficult parts of the route such as loud or smelly sections and confusing intersections
- when you might have to ride on the pavement
We will then consider how to try out your route - when and how to explore a route safely.
During this course, you will
- identify and tentatively map a route, with awareness of potential risks and challenges
- ride your route as or together with autistic cyclists and record it
- develop a useful map of a specific route for autistic cyclists

In this class, we will explore the practicalities of riding as a group of Autistic cyclists:
- what to wear
- what to pack
- how to communicate while cycling
- scheduling breaks and rests
- managing unexpected changes
- dealing with emergencies
- planning longer rides.
