Leaves turning.

Monday, 31 July 2017, was my last day as paid staff at the University of Aberdeen. I have worked at Aberdeen since August 2004. With colleagues, I set up the Scottish Centre for Himalayan Research, the EH? roundtable on interdisciplinary environmental studies, and most recently the Wuhan-Aberdeen Joint Research Institute. I have taught many inspiring and challenging students, and many of you are now activists, teachers and lecturers in your own right. Thank you all!

As a family, we took a long, hard look at what we care about and how to craft a livelihood. For now, at least, we believe we can do more through independent consulting and collaboration than through the university. I will continue to be a Senior Research Fellow at the university, but we will build our research and engagement through consulting on sacred sites, biocultural diversity, ecotourism development, and strong relations with indigenous and local communities.

We are not going away. We look forward to new ways of working with friends and colleagues. Keep in touch!
